One more favorite

I was so grateful to have Jill at this session because she could get the kids to do things that I couldn’t, and she is very good at thinking of the next shot when I’m stuck. I nabbed this shot when the kids were getting tired and they were taking a break with Jill. You can just barely see Madelyn’s little head in Jill’s lap. She was helpful too.

Jacob and Sarah

This has been another project long in the making. We wanted to get some photos of these guys outside of a portrait studio just playing, so we headed out to Ford Park last weekend.

These two have such great personalities. Jacob is incredibly smart, he loves to play, and he’s not afraid to let you know when he wants your attention. Sarah tends to be more subtle. If she wants your attention, she’ll walk up and talk to you, but she’s going to do her thing whether you’re paying attention or not. Sarah has this very cool self-confidence about her.

It was a lot of fun watching these two play in the park with each other.

It’s awesome when Jacob makes Sarah laugh. She has such a great smile.

And Jacob, well, he’s hard to keep up with.

These are two of my favorites of Sarah.

The theme song to Little House on the Prairie plays in my head when I look at this photo.

Jacob was always laughing!

This is the face of a little girl who is done taking photos for the day.

They’re Coming!

We spent a couple of hours trying to keep up with the Witvliet kids this weekend. I’ve processed about half of the photos that we got from our time at Ford Park. I’m eager to post more of them soon. Unfortunately, I have some very important meetings to attend in Palm Springs this Monday through Wednesday, so I may not be able to post them until the end of the week.

More Madelyn

Jill and I went back out last night to take some more 6 month photos of Madelyn. There were some things that I didn’t like about the first session so I was eager to make some fixes.

We started out in the park, but we were inundated by gnats. We lasted about 15 minutes. Then we walked over to the fountain at the university to see what Maddie thought of giant streams of water shooting up from the ground. She didn’t seem so impressed.

“What’chu talkin ’bout, Willis?”

I love Out-takes!

Madelyn at 6 Months

Welcome to all of you who are visiting this photo blog for the first time. If you’re a friend or family member coming over from the Mark and Jill blog, you probably know that I’ve been talking about and dreaming about getting serious about photography for a long time. Well, now I’m doing it.

I’ve launched this blog as a way for people to see my work, and as a way to keep me accountable for shooting several times a week. Thanks to Greg and Rachel, Sheila, and of course, Madelyn, I’ve been able to begin building a portfolio for others to see. If you’re interested in helping me continue building my portfolio, please let me know; I’d love the practice! I’m eager to do some senior portraits this summer as well as more children and couples. Call or email and we’ll set up a date!

Here are some of the photos that Jill and I took to celebrate six months with Madelyn. It was my first time using a flash and I’ve got some learning to do, but a lot of these turned out great.

I learned that babies aren’t supposed to have strawberries at this age, but we thought we’d make an exception for the photo shoot.

I love hats!

boom! She’s got to work on her balance yet.

At six months, Madelyn is already very reflective…

…and patriotic.

This one’s for Jill’s dad who loves dogs and gave Maddie this toy (I think).

Thanks for stopping by! Please be sure to let me know if you live in the Redlands, CA area and you’re ready to set up a date for you and your significant other, or you and your kids, or just you!

Come back soon!

Madelyn’s 6 month photos – teaser

The three of us headed out to the park today to take some official six month photos of Madelyn.  I’ll be eager to post more when I get some more time to process them.

From the Style Issue

For the past couple of years, I’ve been the Managing Editor of my church newsletter called, The Window. Our May issue was the style issue, and I convinced a friend of mine to model for the issue. The focus of the issue was style – personal style, worship style, relationship style, learning style… you get the picture. So Sheila and I set out to illustrate a handful of different styles in the shoot.

We had a great time. Sheila is an excellent model. She just jumped right in and started posing. She made it so easy. Thanks, Sheila!

We really seemed to find our groove in about the middle of this shoot with the western outfit.

Greg and Rachel

For years, I’ve been thinking about doing a shoot with Greg and Rachel. They wanted to update their albums, and I wanted the portrait practice. But since I’d been shooting film and mostly landscapes up until recently, we just never took the leap to set a date and see what we could produce.

Well, a few weekends ago we got together on an overcast morning and did what we’d been talking about all this time. It was the most fun I’ve had with a camera yet. These guys were troopers – Rachel was freezing, and Greg just kept making out with his wife whenever I asked him to. We had a lot of fun.

Their dog was not amused.

The guys in the garbage truck started honking and whistling.

It’s easy to take hip photos with a couple that looks like they could be hosting the MTV music awards.

It was just so much fun to hang out with these guys.

This is one of my favorites of Rachel.

Greg was all too willing to kiss Rachel when I asked him to.

Thanks Greg and Rachel!  And Congratulations!!

Cool Car

I pass this car on my way home from work each day. When I get up the nerve, I’m going to knock on this guy’s door and ask him to tell me the story behind this car. There’s gotta be a great story.
